    Let's go on the assumption that he existed. What are your opinions in regard to this religious figure? And, why?

    This is a conversation that went south real quick. My guess is because I said that I didn't love his god? Anyway...this is the ending portion as he has apparently blocked me from responding (the Sodom and Gommorah threat). I've removed his surname as to protect his identity.

    Only thing is though, in my opinion, a true Christian would never resort to violence to get their point across. Many people claim to be Christians when in fact they are Christians in name only.

    I hope you finished successfully moving your daughter in!

    Tomorrow we will be celebrating the accomplishments of one of the most well-known Christians of all time, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Would you not agree that this Christian man did a lot of good for the cause of racial understanding and equality in this nation?

    Honestly...I think that Malcolm X brought a powerful trigger for equality. Many African Americans were unifying not in the name of peace, but in the name of war. The government was forced to intervene...and not only in the South. MLK Jr. , is a tamer look at the past, in my opinion.

    I agree 110% on your view of pacifism. It would lead to pervasive anarchy if carried out through society at large. Suppose even the police couldn't "take out" a thug trying to kill someone. The Bible, in my view, does not condone pacifism. For instance, when soldiers came to John (Luke 3: 14) the cousin and forerunner of Jesus, when asked what they should do to show repentance, he told them to be content with their pay, not to forcefully take money from anyone, and to not accuse anyone falsely. He said word zero about bailing out of the army because pacifism was what God wanted.

    It's clear to me that you probably know more about what Jesus said than 99.44% of the folks who claim to be his followers. What you said is absolutely true! Here is exactly what he said in Matthew 10: 34-36:

    34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36 and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.

    But keep on reading the rest of what he said in the next place...

    37 “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.

    It was costly in Jesus' day for a person to make a break with their Jewish family to follow a rabble-rousing, itenerant preacher claiming to be God. Jesus expected 100% commitment of a person's loyalty to himself. Discord would be the price that a person would have to live with.

    Love isn't absolute...as it can be lost through such states as dementia or and chemical imbalance. However, it is a biological bonding mechanism that is beneficial toward our survivals...although it can also be detrimental.

    Because love is a means toward survival...it cannot be a substantial afterlife state as survival is no longer necessary once we die or as I like to see it....transfer information. For this god of yours to make such a drastic mistake (demanding to be loved) proves he was not such god.

    We can use this thread to tear into the various cult leaders.

    This particular cult leader, just so happens to be the most popular in the U.S..

    If you read the new testament, and take it literally...you should easily see the cult tactics. It's really quite remarkable that this religion has planted itself....as it's laughable. However unfortunate that it's been taken seriously.

    What is it about the human mind that seems to need to anthromophosize? Parents? Is it not more exciting to imagine our nature as not human? Cool

    Some in these religions look forward to a dictator...throughout eternity. affraid

    They currently worship the figure in their minds...and they believe that they love it.

    This insanity had given rise to human and animal sacrifices...and wars sanctioned by not even wisps. A notion made manifest in horror.

    It can be assumed substantiated by the influence of benefit...but of what benefit is it if it leads the mind to slavery?
